Horseback Riding

There is no better way to explore the local vineyards, wetlands and natural wildlife than to go on a horse ride and experience it all firsthand. Imhoff Equestrian Centre is located on Imhoff Farm and offers three 1.5-hour horse trails each day. Their times are 09:00, 12:00 and 15:30, and all have a minimum age requirement of 12 years. Each of these rides takes you on a trail through vineyards, wetlands and indigenous flora and fauna, all before you arrive on the white sandy shores of Noordhoek Beach. Here, you walk besides the ocean and pass the remains of the famous Kakapo Shipwreck, which ran aground over 100 years ago. Make sure to book a ride so that you don’t miss out on this incredible experience!

Hiking

Scarborough – If you are down for some ‘on-foot’ exploring, Scarborough mountain has a number of easy hiking trails that will take you to the most breathtaking lookout points high above the village. From here, you can see for miles out over the Atlantic Ocean and down towards Cape Point Nature Reserve, while discovering the fynbos and natural streams that cover these beautiful mountains.

Fish Hoek – One of the best hikes in the valley has to be Elsie’s Peak. Depending on what you are up for on the day, this easy-going trail has two starting points to suit the amount of walking you would like to do.

The shorter trail starts from Golconda Street in Glencairn Heights. The longer trail starts from Berg Road in Fish Hoek. Both trails join together halfway up the mountain and continue on to the lookout point at the top of Elsie’s Peak.

Kommetjie – Slangkop mountain in Kommetjie is another stunning hike. It takes you up to Cobra Camp and the remains of the old Block Houses that were built right at the top of the mountain during WW2. From the top of Slangkop Mountain, you can look down to see the famous Slangkop Lighthouse, made of cast iron.

Swim and Surf

Scarborough beach is the perfect place to set down your beach towel and umbrella for a day in the sun. The white sandy shores are beautiful to walk along and it’s the perfect place to sit back and watch the sun set directly in front of you on warm summer evenings.

Scarborough beach is a very popular surf spot for slightly advanced surfers, as it’s where you will see many of the locals every day. For anyone looking to try surfing for the first time, we recommend trying out Muizenberg Beach or Long Beach in Kommetjie. There are a number of wetsuit and surfboard hiring places, so no need to worry about not having any gear! These shops will find the perfect wetsuit and board for any level surfer.
